Influence of ultra-processed foods consumption during pregnancy on baby's anthropometric measurements, from birth to the first year of life: a systematic review

Abstract Objectives: to perform a systematic review of studies that investigated the influence ultra-processed foods (UPF) consumption during pregnancy on child’s anthropometric parameters up one year life. Methods: cohort and cross-sectional were researched in BVS, Cinahl, Cochrane, Embase, Pubmed, Scopus Web Science databases until March 2020, main descriptors were: “Pregnant Women”, “Ultra-processed foods”, “Birth Weight”, “Smallfor Gestational Age”, “Infant”, “Newborn”. Results: seventeen articles considered eligible evaluated associations between exposures: dietary patterns; soft drinks, sugar-sweetened beverages, artificially sweetened beverages; fast food, junk sweets, snacks outcomes: birth weight its classifications; length head circumference at birth; adjustments according gestational age; weight/age, length/age, body mass index/age weight/length indices. The results showed: 36 non-significant exposures outcomes; 13 direct (outcomes versus ultraprocessed patterns, food) 5 inverse drinks). Conclusions: most literature did not demonstrate UPF newborn’s measurements life denoted smaller number outcomes.
